Construction of the church was completed in 1892. The church served the Polish immigrants of the Bridgeport area of Chicago. Archbishop James E. Quigley consecrated the church on October 24, 1903, thus making St. Mary of Perpetual Help the first Polish Roman Catholic Church in the United States to be bestowed with this great honor. My great grand parents, grand parents, father and his brother and sister all attended church here and lived together in two apartment building one block north of the church.
