I'm from Downey and I love Downey but I never noticed how cheap and ugly the sign looks. We need something better to do justice for this fine city.
Hi, I saw all your cool sign pictures. (Very nice collection.) I think a better sign that's not too expensive but a little nicer for Downey would be something like the Chino sign. The Downey sign looks like wood with stucco. It looks like if I could kick it down.

I dig these type of signs/monuments... but i gotta agree with you... Downey's sign does look a little bland...
