This looks a rather forbidding place Claus! Is the building still in use?

Hi Paula, it's not that forbidding, in fact there is a lot of friendly greenery around this place, the citadel of Wesel. These former barracks are now converted into museums, a school of music, the local scouting has their quarters there, etcetera: all peaceful pastime.

That was quite different in the past as Wesel was very strategically positioned on the right bank of the Rhine river. The citadel as it is today was laid out in the 18th century, but the buildings were constructed in Napoleontic times.
