This is the residence of Gifford Pinchot (1865 –1946)who was the first Chief of the United States Forest Service (1905–1910) and the first Governor of Pennsylvania (1923–1927, 1931–1935) Photos of the site from 1909 show a bleak landscape with a mansion at the top of a hill. Being the environmentalist he became known as, he planted trees and more trees... and was reported to have exclaimed: "I would love to see all my trees in 100 years." You should see this place too, it is spectacular.
