it remembers the christian penitence which can be found in many churces in west europe, the labyrinth where you enter on knees, just by the entrance on the photo, and finish your penitence making all the way on knees to the central point. anyway the same type of labyrinth was known by greek an many other civilisations search "labyrinth" on the web
