This steel structure is the head of a new 167m high standing Buddha being built in Po Khuang Hill near Monywa, 136km west of Mandalay. You can imagine how tall this is by looking at the little human figures on top of the head lifting the steel sheets. Early giant Buddha images took a life time to carve out from solid rock face. With today's high-rise building technique, it can complete within a year. Buddha-mania is fast catching up among Asian countries to compete for worshiping tourists.
I heard of this one in a radio story about the idea. I'm glad to see the progress. You have a great collection!
Before this statue there are hundreds of life size buddhas sitting in a open space. There is indication that they are sponsored by the Korean. The statue should have been completed by now.
