The village of Pythio is also noted by the ancient historian Herodotus. Together with the villages of Dolichi and Azoros they formed the ancient three-city coalition of ancient Perevia (the name of the region). Recent excavations revealed the temple of Apollon 2 Km away from the village, near the location "Topoliani". Topoliani used to to have a lot of water, cherry trees and a water mill, ruins of which can still be found.
