I like your cow mirror!! Mirror, mirror, in the ground; Who's the fairest cow around?

In Canada this would be called a "dugout", meaning a no-nonsense hole dug to collect water for livestock. Also used (by kids) for swimming and collecting tadpoles.

Maybe the water is used for the nearby dairy farm, Nawitka. Probably used just like you described it.
