The old gold mining town of Tenabo. This was probably a shop in the town. There's still a large mining operation in the area but the living conditions are slightly better.

I don´t want to go there at midnight. It is a scary house. If I look to the map, I see there is nothing around the old town.
Best wishes, Martin

Very remote, Martin, but a beautiful wide-open valley, and the stars at night are amazing!

Dear Beth, this picture looks most interesting to me! But it is also quite sad!
I really like it.

Thanks you very much, Sabine. It is sad, in a way, but part of the old way of things. I kind of like it that in this wide-open countryside not all of the old places are torn down and built over. Beth

Thanks, Marilyn. There's something about the weathering of wood that seems to put the passing of time into a human scale for me. Beth

Tell me Beth, is all of Tenabo deserted? and is this the result of some natural calamity?
Cheers---Jim

Hi, Jim. There are only four structures left, but the only calamity was the boom and bust gold and silver economy. The whole cycle, in Tenabo's case, lasted about a decade, starting about 1906. There's still mining nearby, and a scattered population in and around a couple of towns, but the ghost town of Tenabo stands fairly isolated. I'd never been there before, even though I only live a couple hours away. A friend of mine does some work for the nearly mine and his wife and I went over for a visit. It's an amazingly beautiful area for those of us who love wide-open spaces. Beth

Thanks for the interesting feedback Beth, I saw something similar in California many years ago. The town was called "Callico" and it certainly was deserted, but I have a feeling that the place had been dressed up for the tourists. None of the buildings were as dilapidated as the one above. Having said that, the town was miles off the beaten tourist track.
Kind regards---Jim

beth, I have since discovered that Callico is very much on the tourist track. There are many photos in Pano. HEREis an image portraying a ruined miners house.
This old town even has its own tourist facilities, and why not, its well worth a visit.---Jim

Hi, Jim. There are quite a few ghost towns around the American West. There are even books out on where to find them. Callico looks like an interesting one. Some of the old miner's dwellings (for lack of a better word) scattered throughout the mountains around here near private claims are pretty amazing, too. Here's one we saw in the Shoshone range as the light was fading. Beth
