Hi Lacitot, Cape Kiwanda is a favorite place of mine. I've gotten some of my best ocean shots here. Ray Atkeson said in one of his books that he spent the largest amount of film here in this location trying to get the best shots. he loved it here and I know why..

Thanks again for the comment. Michael

Like the composition. Cape Kiwanda looks like a great place for photography.

Yes it is, and it's one of my favorites!

You should come and visit a few days and check it out!

Thanks for the compliment.

It's a beautiful place but stay on this side of it when you make it to the top! Unstable ground and high cliff on other side- just lost a very dear 18 year old boy there this week! RIP Lil T

Yes its a very wild and scenic place. It's exposed headlands are eroding at an alarming rate and in the past 7 years the edges have become more brittle.

I have watched the place erode drasticly over the years. The edge that faces Pacific City has lost large sections. The hard ground on the left side of the fience at the saddle between the dune and headland used to be covered in sand and grass. Most of it was wiped out by waves crashing over it in heavy winter storms in 2003.

Lastly the farthest portion is being slowly cut away the cliff side trail which had some stability is now crumbling away. Soon the headland will become an island. I give it another 20 years.

There used to be a sign there that stated you should be aware that Cape Kiwanda can be a very dangerous. You are on your own and that help may or may not arrive.

Now you dont even know about the dangers until you have hit the saddle between the dune and headland. There is a sign there.

Many people have lost their lives at Cape Kiwanda. From falling to digging sand caves and having it collapse on them.

I am sorry for your loss. A tragic end to someone so young..

Hey Guys. I have not been on PanOramio for quite a while. I stopped posting image here because of the use of my images via Google through their API without compensation. This past year I had thought about coming back but as it stands now with PanOramio closing down its service I'm going to be removing my images..
