Greetings Anna, Thanks for visiting and commenting. You can get a sense for the terrain the temple is built on because of all the steps. There are thousands of well placed stone stairs throughout the temple. I got a feel for how much work had to be done to prepare the foundations for the temple buildings. This place is "rock" solid and will be here for centuries to come or longer.

Typical architecture! Beautiful image!

Greetings Beatriz, Thanks so much for visiting and commenting. I am glad you like the picture. It is fairly typical of a gate. There will be a guardian on each side of the gate behind the screens.

Greetings Giampietro, Pilago and Seyit, Thanks so much for visiting the Japan photographs and all the wonderful comments. I am glad you like this colorful gate. It is the entrance to a huge and beautiful temple facility in Kyoto.
