Hi Vincent,Why is it called a sugar shack? It is a beautiful picture. Do you have any entries from this month? I appreciate your visit to my gallery. My friend, you're a smart cookie, you're comments were correct and appreciated. This year, we had one sunny day I suppose you’re autumn is longer than ours. Best wishes Ray

Bonjour _Vincent_Pourquoi est-il appelé Une cabane à sucre. C'est une belle photo.

Avez-vous des entrées pour le concours de ce mois?

Meilleurs voeux, Ray

Hello Ray,

In Quebec as well as in the northeast USA (Maine, Vermont), products of the maple tree are a tradition. Maple sap, which is very sweet, is boiled down to a thick golden syrup. The boiling process is done in large vats (containers) on the spot, in a sugar shack, right in the middle of the maple grove where the sap is collected from the trees. Actually, sugar shacks are active in the spring, when the sap is plentiful, rather than in the fall.

Puisque vous me posez la question, je me permets de vous dire que j'ai inscrit deux photos de la gare Union de Toronto au concours de décembre, photos prises à l'occasion d'un récent voyage.

Salutations cordiales,

Vincent

Thank you, Marilyn, for your visit and comment. As I went through your own portfolio, I found no shortage of quintessential canadiana: so I take your comment as coming from a connaisseur!

One might imagine, FancyLady, that the leaves were crisp and bouncy. Hélas, it wasn't the case: they were moist with dew and the dampness was seeping through the soles of my shoes. Luckily, one wouldn't know judging from the photograph. Thanks for dropping by.

Hello Vincent,

Please find attached the links to some of my photos. I would like to put some more of the autumn in Warsaw but I don't know if anybody likes them so I would like to get independand opinion. My main interest is what is nicer the lighter picures or the darker ones. To make this pictures I haven't used any filter. Probably with the filter will be the nicer ones. Thanks in advance. Hello Michal,

I examined your pictures closely and with great pleasure. They are very interesting and show a fine sense of composition and a taste for good lighting. You have a good control of exposure.

I have permitted myself to grade your pictures from A to E. A has the best composition and the finest lighting. B is the best exposed of all, with nice composition and good colours. C is the expression of a very good concept, nicely composed. The foreground, though, is too dark: if you had stepped forward half a meter, you could have put the light coloured leaves in the foreground. D is also a great concept; unfortunately, the picture is taken at an angle which creates distortion. E, the fish-eye shot, is interesting, though in my view, fish-eye lenses are best when you have a foreground object which allows you to benefit from the great depth of field. Finally, F I do not find interesting, because I cannot find a subject: the eye is not guided toward anything, and the photographer's shadow is included in the picture.

All in all, I think your photographs truly belong on Panoramio: you should not hesitate to show them to everyone. One easily senses your thoughtful approach to photography as well as your feeling for beauty.

I hope this helps,

Regards,

Vincent
