I grew up in Asbury Park and loved it. I'm talking 1950 thru 1953 - spent every summer there. My grandparents had a restaurant on Cookman Avenue called (among other names) Casa Venezia. Lived there from 1967 to 1972 - moved from a great apartment on First Avenue just 2 blocks from the beach to Allenhurst. After the race riots it was never the same. I'm very happy to see it coming back to life after all these years! I saw many great movies at the St. James and Mayfair theaters including Ten Commandments, Bridge on the River Kwai, Wild in the Streets and 2001: A Space Odyssey. I miss it, now living in New Mexico, but I have many, many fond memories of the good old days and hope to visit one day soon.
