I took this on a day hike to Mist Fall. A fellow hiker had told me that we would soon reach a place where there was an interesting rock formation. When we reached the place where we could see it, I asked him if it had been named. He didn't know. I've talked to other people since then, and none of them knew its name either. So the name I gave it that day still stands: "The Guardian of the Mist".
Wonderful photo, Chip. Amazing, that this face went unnamed for so long. Such a dour and watchful guardian, I'm sure the mist will always remain safe.
Thanks, Ryan. For all I know it has a real name, I just haven't been able to discover it.

thanx for sharing. u might call the lodge at sequoia national park n talk to the rangers. years ago i asked one about the guardian of the mist an he said something about Sacagawea an that was why they named the campground lower on that river Sacagawea campground. i might be mistaken about the name thou as that was back in 1992 or 3. i really like all your shots on panoramio [picassa photo free to download]
