you can see that intelligent mind working top shot jean/gregory.
Hi Jean. What a beautiful side you have made. So nice these animals. I like them all, as the one you had in the contest.
Cheers from Holland, Christien
Steve, yes, I think you can. I'm glad you like this photo.
Yes, Christien, thank you very much for remembering! Yes, I love animals and these live right here in the woods so I photograph them. I placed here some of the photos from the last year. Maggiemoostix hinted for more so here they are!
nice one jean but i prefer a good porcupine as a buddy! i used to have one when i worked on the trails that would hang around with me and help to eat my lunch.
Don, I have never seen a porcupine in the wild in real life. That must be great! We have opossums though and one comes occassionally to dine with the raccoons late at night. I'd say I'd get a picture but my flash seems to have permanently cut off. Drat.
they are much nicer than most seem to think, they don't really run and are full of confidence so they usually get used to people fast. a quick show of the quills to let you know what they have and it's back to their business.
I wish we had porcupines here. I have seen them on the nature shows and they look like they might be a lot like opossums except they don't faint when they get scared.
our possums never play dead i was starting to think that was just a lie, i have had to fight them off on a few occasions with a pitch fork! very aggressive, and brave!
Don, that is funny. A few times I thought for sure the possum had died but later watched out the window as it came too and got up and left. I have never seen one aggressive. I saw one get into a fight with a dog and just keeled over like it was dead but later it got up and left after the dog was long gone. I saw a TV special that they have a drop in blood pressure that makes them pass out so they don't have a choice in the matter. Like blushing only way worse, I guess.
all are fantastic!
Thank you, giors!
Love this shot too! I have put this link in my favorites so I can look more later. One year we had an opposum and a raccoon have a fight in the tree in our front yard. They made so much noise that they woke my husband up - I was gone at the time, unfortunately - and he said that the opposum won and ran the raccoon out of the tree.
joyfotos, that is a funny story. I also have an opposum that sometimes joins the raccoons in the evenings but they act like they are all old friends! Amazing, isn't it?
Thanks for sharing your story!
Yes, my memories from NC are of the same. Opposums are new imports here - came in with the hay in the drought of 1988.
joyfotos, So I guess the opposums are still making new friends out thataway. I remember hearing about the drought of 1988 and all the hay being transported. It was like farmers helped farmers across the long distances, from state to state. Then there were other droughts in other places and they got to help those who first helped them.
You are correct on both counts. Do you have any new photos up - have to get over to check and see.
joyfotos, I see that you found them!
