This view of Buckeye Pond is looking toward the northwest. This water body is situated within the North Coast Range in northern Sonoma County. Prominent in the image lower right are cattails. The locale is generally forested with a California Black Oak dominated woodland. The timing of this photo was immediately after the first significant rainfall of the 2008/2009 water season. Correspondingly numerous Rough-skin Newts were seen migrating, having emerged from their seasonal subterranean hiding places.
