Are these freshwater oysters??

Séan.

Thanks much Séan and I believe they are freshwater mussels of some kind. Been doing some research to find out exactly what kind. Will let you know when I do. I thought they'd make an interesting foreground. :)

Best regards, Tom

Interesting shot Tom. Regarding the wildlife I came across this little gem of student research. I thought that clams must live buried in sand and mussels attach themselves to rocks with tough gluey fibers. At any rate there are many species of both living in your region. Chris

I guess I should have pocketed a few while standing there for identification Chris. Hindsite. Appreciate the comments and the educational link. Thanks.

Cheers LM. The water in the Potomac is clear but I'm not so sure about the fresh. Certainly wouldn't eat anything caught in it. :) Last year biologists, in the upper reaches in West Virginia, caught and identified a male Smallmouth Bass that was producings eggs ! Yikes. Talk about steroid use gone wrong. :)

All the best to you both, Tom

Wonderful wide-angle shot, Tom! I want to go skimming over that water, but I wouldn't want to disturb the peace of the place by using the kind of craft that would take me there! Cheers, Marilyn

Thank you very much Marilyn. It is a deceptively peaceful place with kayaks being the only mode of transport because of the rapids. :)

Thank you Michele for picking up on the subject of the image. They are beautiful aren't they?!

Best regards to you both, Tom
