Ibis

You caught me, Billy and Mira. It was an ibis at Disney world, and obviously used to being photographed. I have many truly wild ibis shots, but none this good.
I keep trying to get a good one on the University of Miami campus -- the ibis is our mascot, but they don't pose so sweetly. I had some great ones a couple of weeks ago, but their heads and necks were dirty from sucking their breakfast out of the mud.
Maybe your Western ones are shy Paul. Ibis here are all around and don't move away from humans. I missed a wonderful shot of one juggling a lizard in its beak.
I have a shot of a truly shy bird I'm getting ready to post as soon as I look it up. It's the tiny heron with the beautiful purple and green plumage. It wss in the canal right by my office.
Thanks for the ID Paul. I just uploaded it. this is only the second one I've seen on campus, and it's a miracle I noticed it so tucked away on the other side of the canal I had to use zoom and then crop.
I admire your knowledge of birds. I just can't keep up without a cheat sheet unless they're dramatic, like the purple gallinule.
Ah! I get the picture Mary, an undignified sucker with a penchant for mega posing.
I can imagine these creatures enjoying a little audience appreciation at Disney, especially the evening parade. They remind me of those wierd birds in a scene from Alice in Wonderland,
We'd better be respectful of this bird, Jim it's the mascot of my team, the University of Mimi Hurricanes (who lost today, alas!).
Say, are you up early or late? From the hijinks on that seductive lady in the tub, I'd say up late.
Cheers! Mary

Excellent capture of this strangely elegant bird Mary Nice job
Kind regards---Jim
Thanks Jim. This guy is strangely elegant because they probably have attendants washing him and brushing him at Disney.
I often see them sucking juicy tidbits out of the canal next to my office, and they definitely look undignified poking around in the mud!
I hope you have a lovely Sunday and take some more photos!

Perhaps it is time to select another mascot Mary How about a DUCK!!!!! oops, that was a bit disrespectful, wasn't it!!
"I'm late, I'm late"- 'quote' Louis Carrol---Alice---
Its shuteye time Mary and I'm going to hit the sack. G'nite---blessings---Jim
Why would we want a duck when we have this. Now there's undignified behavior.
A local author called Miami "the city where satire is impossible".
Perhaps Sebastian the Ibis is the mascot for whom disrespect is impossible.
Just thought I'd greet you with this to cheer your "morning after" ;->> Mary
Yeah Mary, I just had to smile, Sebastian eased the painful transition from stupour to hang-over!!
Thanks for the amusing link---Jim ;>}
Happy to ease a sufferer, Jim. Suffering here over yesterday's Hurricane loss.
cheers! Mary
