Old Coach House rebuilt 1878. Last stop for coaches unable to enter the walled city of York before dusk.

This is a local Public House near to my home. It used to be an old coaching house where the coaches used to stay overnight in olden days when York was a walled City. Because the gates of the City used to be locked from Dusk till Dawn. Cheers Des .

Hi Lana, This building used to be a coaching halt. There used to be stables to the rear, in the old days if a coach arrived at dusk they were not allowed into the city, the gates were closed till dawn, So the coachman and passengers would spend the night here. It is now a public house. Cheers from Des in YORK.

Haven't been in there for many years. I believe it is still a Tetley's House. At the moment I'm waiting for a sunny blue sky for taking shots of the nearby windmill and west bank park.

DES T, on July 18, 2012, said:

Yes it is still a Tetleys house as far as I know.. I have just taken photos of the windmill with the sails on , it looks realy good. I find that the best time to photogragh in West Bank park is the autunm when the lease are changing.
