This is a local Public House near to my home. It used to be an old coaching house where the coaches used to stay overnight in olden days when York was a walled City. Because the gates of the City used to be locked from Dusk till Dawn. Cheers Des .

Hi Lana, This building used to be a coaching halt.There used to be stables to the rear, in the old days if a coach arrived at dusk they were not allowed into the city, the gates were closed till dawn, So the coachman and passengers would spend the night here.
