Thanks for the compliment, Cy. Pacific Crest Stock is a new stock photography agency that some friends and I will be starting later this year. You can see a preliminary version of our website at: http://www.mikeputnamphoto.com/pacificcreststock/. The group asked me to add the watermark to my panoramio images in an effort to prevent them from being used without permission. I hope you understand.

Just after I took this photograph, I got stranded out on a rock by the incoming tide. If you are interested in reading more about that little adventure, check out the "Oceanside Escape" entry on our new photography blog (http://www.pacificcreststock.com/blog).

Hello Troy,

Have ya been out and about this spring? I just got back from a trip into Central Oregon this last weekend. The grass is just begining to turn green in the higher elevations. I visited the crooked river and the Prinville Resv. The Deschutes river up to Benham falls. and The Painted Hills at sunset..

Quite beautiful.

Got a question for you about coastal shots though. when I'm on the beach taking shots, what do you do to keep you optics clear of salt spray. I usually dont see it causing problems until too late. and wiping just smears and streaks the lens..

Excellent shots as always..

Sounds like a great trip, Michael. I look forward to seeing your photos. I haven't had much luck with photography this winter. I'm actually getting ready to post a new entry on our Pacific Crest Stock blog summarizing all of the bad luck that I've had this winter. We're just a few weeks away from getting some early season flowers here, so hopefully things will improve soon.

I don't really have any great tips for minimizing ocean spray. It has ruined plenty of my pictures as well. I always use my lens hood (which helps quite a bit). If it's really bad, I lock in my settings, set the 10-second timer, and cover the lens with a lens cloth until just before the shutter releases. This works well sometimes, but depending on the temperature outside, it can also cause the lens to fog up just before the shot. If you have any other tips, I'd love to hear them too.

Take care, Troy

Troy,

Thanks for the info.

Sorry to hear about your run of bad luck this winter I know how it goes. Last Spring I took a trip to Arkansas. about 3 weeks later I got really, really sick with a flu that would return every 30 days for 3 months. Decisive to say I missed out on alot of Spring and Summer shots last year. My only save was the trip to the Wallows in Oct.

I'm probably going to post less on Panoramio because I want to open a web gallery of my photos. I'll add a few but link them to my site.

I hope this year treats you better.

thanks again..

Troy,

By the way check out this website. The guy does extensive HDR work and it's really good. He has tutorials and used a varity of programs in his work flow like Photomaix, Lucis Pro, Noiseware and Portriature. The way this guy handles noise in his images is awesome. the web site is Stuck in Customs

Make sure you check through in landscapes and he has coupon codes for the above mentioned software.

enjoy..
