This was taken 15 years ago as two shots (top half/bottom half)with a Nikon F4 -- Then about 3 years ago with the help of photoshop -- it became one image.
There is an elevator in each tower — very small elevator but better than climbing. The last 20 feet is up a ladder and then through a hatch — kinda like emerging from a submarine — only you're above the water 550 feet (168 M). It was thrilling.

Bridge authority took me up -- small elevator in the tower, then a few hatches to crawl through.
