This coin was minted nearly 400 years ago, around 1630, in Potosi Bolivia in South America. Today this area is the Portobelo Trail in Panama. The interesting thing about the way coins like this were created is that they have a lot of relief to them, that is the difference between the high points and low points is pretty significant. This high relief allows for an interesting look at this coin in 3D that would be pretty meaningless with most of today's low relief coins minted for circulation.
