Local legend has it that Bearshank Wood is named after a band of Scottish prisoners of war (kilts = "bare shanks") was massacred here hundreds of years ago. Some say it is still haunted by their restless spirits, although during my frequent photographic forays at dawn and dusk I have yet to encounter any ghostly apparitions other than the occasional swirl of mist. But who knows...

Hope you enjoy the picture!
