Sunrise at Oxen Wood

Oxen Wood is at the southern end of Fermyn Woods... that splendid remnant of the ancient Rockingham Forest that stretches from Brigstock to Islip. The decline of the British mining industry has seen a huge drop in demand for pit props, so the conifer plantations that once dominated these woods have now made way for more wildlife-friendly indigenous species of trees, but some pines still remain - like these ones with the early morning sun pouring through the branches.
