Hi Frits ~ a yellow star ~ yippee ~ thank you so much ~ I stood in the middle of a field in the freezing cold for around an hour working on this shot (Well I took many shots of course ~ but this one was the one!)

Hi Digga G'day to you ~ yes the old windmill gets plenty of work from me ~ it is such a great subject to pop in front of a sunset or two.

Thanks for your compliment and very kind greetings in return to you and Germany

Beautiful photo Nick, impressively clean for a ISO1600 shot. As what I've heard about it your D700 is an impressive machine.

Hi Thomas thanks for your thoughtful observations and the compliment. I have only had the camera for about six weeks or so. The ISO capabilities of it are unbelievable - it can turn night into day. For a time I was using it set to max 6400 but that was crazy for sunsets (it lightened them up far too much) - good shots but a little too noisy for my liking so I pulled it down to max at 1600. The evening of this shot I did quite a few successful captures at ISO400 too, but the moon came out best in this one. I still have masses to learn, but I'm loving it. (You can go very much higher on ISO by manual setting - they say you can catch a black cat in a coal cellar!) All the best.
