The River Nene is one of my favourite places - so much so that I wrote a book about it more than 10 years ago. That book - The River Nene From Source to Sea - is now long out of print (but fetching absurd prices on Amazon and eBay) so I'm working on a second edition... hence photographs like this one, taken on the lower river at the North Bank, above the Dog in a Doublet tidal sluice, near Whittlesey. It was taken on the day in 2008 that a warehouse adjacent to the McCains factory caught fire - hence the huge plume of smoke that dominates even the brick chimneys and wind turbines.
Hope you enjoy the picture!
