Jan Dyckman established a farm near the northern tip of Manhattan in the 1660s. After its destruction in the Revolutionary War, William Dyckman, Jan’s grandson, replanted the land and built this Farmhouse around 1784. Constructed mostly of fieldstone and clapboard, it features sloping spring eaves, wide porches, and a simple brick facade facing the street. The small home served three generations of the Dyckman family until 1868. As the character of the neighborhood changed from rural to urban, the old Farmhouse slid into disrepair. Info courtesy of A30

Hi there Mick Flynn,
I am so impressed with not only your historical information, but that out of all of Manhattan, you put up the least Manhattan view. Really great to see something other than the Empire State or Statue of Liberty from a visitor. It's a nice shot too, and I have never been to this place and I'm native to NYC. Out of embarrassment I will have to venture to the Dykman House. Thanks for teaching me something about my home town. :)
Cheers from Brooklyn

Hi Toodle, Thanks for teh comment. I pinched the info from another site! This was taken when we were visiting at the time of 9/11, so although this was a happy day for us, it was soon to change for many people.
I love this place because it's in the middle of a bunch of tenement buildings, but looks like we just walked in off a country lane.
A great NY site is ... http://www.forgotten-ny.com/ which you may already be aware of, but if not, then be prepared to spend ages on his site.

All too familiar with forgotten-ny, Mick. I had a Londoner friend in town on the 11th and his flight was canceled that day and remained another week. I will definitely go to the Dykman House. Thanks for taking the time to look at my pages. :)
