Is it my imagination or does the north half of this tunnel not have any chimneys? Also, there are some odd marks in the landscape that look like they're over the tunnel....have there been cave-ins and the ground has settle?
Late response (9 months) but there are no vents at the north end. The whole reason for the tunnel being built was because the owner of catesby house didn't want the railway "spoiling" the landscape and views, and for the same reason he didn't want air vents in view either - so the first one you get to if entering from the north portal is much larger in scale than the others. It is a magnificent tunnel though - been right through it recently - spectacular!
No cave-ins anywhere. It is fenced off at either end but theoretically if the gates were opened you can still walk right the way through.
