This row of a dozen houses on South Carey Street (or Scarey Street to the locals) shows a wide variety of approaches to customization of the basic Baltimore row.
Behind these houses is one of the largest Ailanthus trees in the neighborhood. It is sometimes jokingly referred to as the Maryland state champion Ailanthus tree. Ailanthus is an Asian import that can grow in the most inhospitable urban conditions and is sometimes referred to (in jest) as a ghetto palm.
