I remember taking the very same picture in August 1999 at the start of our 92 mile journey along the Staffordshire Way. I wish I had a digital camera in those days.
The views were indeed very good and an excellent place to start the walk. We later found that the Folly was built in 1754 to enhance the view from Rode Hall.
On our next leg of the walk, not all that far from Mow Cop, we climbed to the summit of The Cloud, and the views from there were even better.
