I can't even begin to work out how this image was created - it is very different. The bird-like shape of the skyline is an added bonus. What a unique perspective.
We can see here a lot of incredible photos, places, natural and artificial forms, all they fantastic. But this photo is.. almost "impossible". To make it needs an great creative eye besides talent.

To answer pokatut's question: I saw the basic shape when taking the photo but it was not fully fleshed out until the processing step. The lamp as the bird's eye was a complete stroke of luck...
Did the skyline appear that way in the original fisheye shot or did you use software to 'tweak' it into that shape? It's certainly a fascinating and unique perspective you have whichever way it works.

The only 'tweaking' was in choosing a projection to convert the effecctively spherical image into a flat one. Slight changes in the choice of center or how it is projected change the distortions and I did play with that to get the final image, but I didn't explicitly warp or modify anything.
All the more reason to be impressed then. If you don't already distribute these images commercially (ie postcards/prints) you should give it some serious thought - you're definitely onto something.
