Wrens Nest Nature Reserve is one of the UKs most important geological sites. Partly due to the abundant fossils in the Silurian Wenlock limestone, and also because these quarries provided the limestone needed for Abraham Darby's blast furnaces in the 1700s. This hill saw the birth of the Industrial Revolution.
