North Entrance Road Tunnel, Western Heights, Dover, Kent, UK (1)

A view of eastern end of the tunnel which with Bridge 1 and Bridge 2 form the North Entrance to Dover's Napoleonic defenses on the Western Heights.

The righthand arch is the single-lane road, used by traffic until the 1960s, and the right a guardroom.

Despite what I said in the first Comment, the guard room is actually on the left of the photo at the top of this page.

I've finally taken a photo of the air or ventilation shaft, located half-way down the tunnel, where it emerges above ground.

The "new" North Military Road ("Military Hill"), which cuts through the moats connecting the North Entrance to the Drop Redoubt, is just out of shot on the right.
