Being a born and bred Texan, I cannot see this monument without some emotion and a sense of awe. The elevator ride to the top is slow, but worth it. The view is amazing, you can see the Battleship "Texas" (a veteran of both World Wars, and the battleground where Texas gained its' Independence. Texas is the only state that was, at one time, a country of its' own. Because of this the Texas Flag (The Lone Star) is the only state flag authorized to fly at the same height as "Old Glory". Texas also is the only state that has the right to split into five states should the citizens desire that, but I can't imagine any "True Texan" that would want to devide such a fine territory.
