Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

The City of Carcassonne, in the Aude department is primarily known as a fortified medieval town, but human presence on this rocky outcrop is much older. At a Gallic settlements established in the 6th century BC succeeded in Roman times an urban center assets. In the late 3rd and early 4th century AD, the city was endowed with walls whose remains are still impressive today on the two-thirds of the inner wall, very well preserved and Heritage UNESCO World since 1997.
