Objects, which are less than say 50 years old, are not considered part of the history. (But of course they * will * be important parts of history in (say) 100 years - but then it's too late, because they are gone. In UK a lot of industrial heritage has been destroyed during the Thatcher era. She was obviously proud that she managed to destroy major parts of British industry and probably considered the disappearing of "outdated" industrial installations as an indication of "progress". Sorry, i don't know anything on the "Schwabinger Tor".
