Thank you, Brian and Bart. This was so lovely in the late afternoon light that I simply had to try to find a photo angle when we got back to the hotel.
Yes, I said hotel. The Gezira Palace, "created for Empress Eugenie of France when she attended the opening of the Suez Canal in 1896," now forms the central part of the Cairo Marriott Hotel! Most of the guest rooms are in modern towers at each side of the original palace.
Brian, there are so many "standard shots" of the places we visited--and so many "standard shots" being taken by members of our group--that neither the Panoramio world nor I personally needed more. Thus I was stimulated to "look for the picture" wherever I went.
Thank you for your good wishes. May your holidays be joyful and your new year full of more wonderful photos! Marilyn

Leave it to you Marilyn to give us a photo where the frame has more interest than the "inside." What a great way to handle the detail of the passage way. It's just perfect!

Thank you, Larry, Alicia, Jurgis, Sig, Anne, Hank, and Daniela. I'm glad you, too, were attracted by this. Usually we returned to our room through the building, but I'm very glad that this time we took the outside route! Greetings, Marilyn

How nice to see. We lived there, in Zamalek, for 2+ years about 30 years ago and we went to the hotel often. Very nice memories.
