This was taken early afternoon on Christmas Eve Day. My first full-turn plus panorama -- more than 360 degrees -- a good way to try out my new Christmas Eve Special tripod. I got it for $13 at Radio Shack -- I'm cheap. The sky was spitting a few drops and managed to get my lens shortly after finished setting up. I took things down, not wanting to get a piece of electronics wet and started walking away, but then the drops slowed, and I decided to try again. A little later I could see some blue sky, but shortly after that it started spitting rain again.
In the photo, on the left there is one end of a ferry -- which you will also see in its totality on the far right. This is followed by a cargo ship just off the northern tip of Alki beach, Puget Sound outside of Elliot Bay, a cruise ship being worked on, the Bell Harbour Marina, various hotels and condos including Continental Place, a tower of concrete that has externalized some of its beams of support. There is the top of the Space Needle and some of Pike Place Market, the Alaskan Way Viaduct, the Fifteen-Twenty-One on Second, Two Union Square with an unadorned flag-pole and the shorter, silver One Union Square.
Slightly to the right of the center, you have Rainier Tower (although you can't see its tapered base), the WaMu Center, Washington Mutual Tower, the new Four Seasons Hotel by West Edge, Safeco Plaza, the 1000 Second Avenue Building with its step-like appearance, the Columbia Center to the back, the beveled Wells Fargo Center, the shorter Watermark, the Henry M. Jackson Building with its four corner cap roof. The right-most skyscraper is the historic Smith Tower with its slender pyramid-like top. Directly beneath the Smith Tower is the Seattle Aquarium, followed by Qwest Field and Safeco Field, then a ferry by the Seattle Ferry Terminal, the Port of Seattle Cranes, the Hanjin (a Korean cargo ship), the ferry that we began with and Alki Beach.
For a view of Seattle at night from Alki Beach itself, please see Seattle from Alki on 31 Dec 2008. For a different panoramic view that takes in downtown Seattle and Alki Beach during the day, please see Downtown Seattle and Kerry Park.
