Looking north from the Blue Ridge Parkway, a delicate mist sits at the base of Mt. Jefferson. On the other side of the mountain sits the town of Jefferson, NC for which the mountain was renamed.
Originally called Negro Mountain because escaped slaves hid out there while fleeing north to freedom, the mountain and its slopes now make up the 474 acre Jefferson State Park.
Thank you Kruno. I guess the overcast sky was the price of the lovely bit of fog crossing the valley, but can you imagine this photo if I had blue skies too.
Thanks May. Our eastern mountain ranges are no match for the Rockies, so I couldn't possible find a mountain-scape that would overwhelm an eye trained in Switzerland. We offer soft, smooth and nicely rounded peaks.
Thanks for stopping by and commenting Dalila. Happy New Year too.
Hi Tomek. I was just about to logoff for the year when your message came through. Thanks for your good wishes, and I wish you and your family a Happy, Healthy and prosperous New Year.
My next milestone is going to be to honor one of my photos that hit the 100,000 mark. It's worthy of note not only for making that level of views - there are a number of photos with more - but the subject itself has a special meaning.
