Place d'Étoile in downtown Beirut. Ottoman and Art Deco Buildings reconstructed after the civil war by the Solideré Project.

The rebuilt city centre appeared very clean and slick at first, almost surreal, but the empty setting was soon populated by cafes and shops and eventually adopted by the Beirut people and alive again.
