It's hard to miss the barbed wire. Is there an interesting story here that you can tell us?

pingu57 on December 29, 2008

Are you getting ready to report from Gaza?

Marilyn Whiteley on December 31, 2008

Thank you, Pepe, Sandro & Cristina, Hank, and pingu.

I must say I'm glad to be back from Israel at this time. The present story is a sad one.

Hank, I, too wondered about the barbed wire. I think it has no more story than that it keeps people from climbing on the ruins. I photographed it, not for any story that I knew, but because it certainly made a strong visual element!

This is a 4th century synagogue built on top the ruins of a 1st century one.

Speaking of things built on top of other things, did you get to Meggido?

Marilyn Whiteley on January 4, 2009

No, Hank, we didn't get to Meggido. It looks fascinating. So many places, so little time!

So many places, so little time ...

very true, Marilyn. Half around the mare mediteranium near Cannes the walls are secured by crunched glas.

But often it is pretty simple: the real purposes of the barbed has been forgotten. Just the wire for itself remains. Years later even that is blown away

Marilyn Whiteley on January 12, 2009

Yes, how many things linger when the purpose is forgotten!

Thanks for the link.
