The day I shot this photo, I told my artist father that I was trying to make the Malden River look like Monet's Giverny, which is not an easy task given all the styrofoam cups, etc. floating around, and the fact that this whole area was the previous site of Monsanto Chemical. At one time, there was a huge mountain of stored sulphur sitting not far from the Target store a few yards north of here. To the southeast across Alford St. in Charlestown there was a similar sized dome-like building that held Domino sugar. There both gone now, but the Edison power plant, Distrigas, a scrap metal yard etc. and the Chelsea Produce market are still in the large industrial area just north across the Mystic River. Oh yeh, I forgot to say, my parents and their generation used to swim in these areas before all the industries arrived.
