It was a moat Billy, one of the towers collapsed into the moat after a severe frost in 1760. The ruins were subsequently plundered for stone to surface roads and build houses. It is gradually being restored now since 1967, but it is only a shadow of its former glory I suspect. :) Glad you like the winter light - in fact it was almost dark!!
Ilike such types of romantic fotos! Dark fotos have a special spirit! I hope you knows the german romantic painter "Caspar David Friedrich"!
Dark liquid ~reflects well ~ good work Amelia ~ and everyone else has already said to all above :)
Hello Mira and Billy. I am so glad you liked the history. Still no news yet by the way! :)
Hello Andreas, I had to look up C.D. Friedrich, so thank you for improving my education. Some of his photos are quite Gothic, but he also has some lovely soft, misty paintings. Thank you for your visit.
Hello Nick, Glad you like this one. I'm only on line for a short time this evening, but it's nice to speak to folks again.
Lovely scene of a little bit ruin that Cromwell knocked about a bit.:-))
You're right Scally, the castle was taken by Cromwell in 1643. Glad you like the scene though.
I like this picture of this old castle! The reflections are great. I wish you a HAppy New Year!
