Ahhh, Ralph, reminds me of a much warmer time.

Dann,

It was a good 3 weeks in the mountains. My spouse spotted "smokes" from the nearby fire tower that summer.

During the lupine bloom the entire meadow smelled like sweet peas. As you probably know lupines are of the "pea family."

Tanks for our pictures, Ralph, and happy new year !

Guess I had never given it much thought, Ralph, but it makes sense, what with the flowering structure and all.

Dann.

Dann's right. As much as I looked forward to my first winter in the rockies, now I find myself waxing nostalgic for alpine wildflowers. Maybe I'm just a wimp about the cold.

It's hard to get a bad picture of a lupine-filled meadow, but this one's a standout. Thanks.

Another classic 'Maughan' mountain wild flower photo. All the best for 2009! I will look forward to more of your western panoramas -- and can hardly wait for spring after seeing this shot.

A gold star for sure!

iwasborn2balive!!!, Thank you. That summer was one of the most stunning displays of wildflowers I have ever seen. They are lupines, which smell like sweet peas, though they are toxic. I understand lupines have become an invasive pest in parts of Europe. However, they are native to North America. I am always happy to see them.
