It is interesting to contrast this picture against some others taken of Seattle from Pier 62, e.g., From Pier 62 on 24 Dec 2008 and Skyline Viewed Across Pier 62/63. Moving closer in towards the street and away from the water makes smaller but closer objects (such as cars, streetlights and condos) appear relatvely larger, but it has little effect upon the visual apparent size (or for that matter, position) of the larger more distant buildings, and as a consequence has the psychological effect of making Seattle's downtown area as a whole appear smaller.
