Don't worry. I think the tree got hurt a little, it's still standing but no one was in the car when the flame broke out. I was walking around the corner when the flame started up on the front left corner of the vehicle. Then came the firetruck. Luckily I had my trusty 35mm camera at the time.
From what you can see. The fireman is breaking the car windows with a bar, so they can hose the inside with water. It didn't take long and there was a lot of steam and smoke after the fire was extinguished. I may have more stills on the negative film.
It's strange how the car, that's been on the road for 20+ years, parked legally by the meter and next to the hydrant, goes up in flames on a beautiful clear day. The firemen were quite brave, (and so were you) - what if the gas tank was full and went ka-boom Hollywood style?!
It only goes ka-boom if it mixes with air. When fuel is confined without much oxygen in a closed container such as fuel tank, chances of it going kaboom are very slim.

Looks surreal, reminds me of the Pink Floyd "Wish you were here" album cover. The shot stands out on Panoramio, thanks.
