Beautiful colours in our ducks here Amelia fantastic lighting, reflections etc and good composition. I'd say you and your new camera have a great future.

When you catch the head of a male mallard in sunlight it really is colourful. Thank you blai for noticing this. By the way, what I am noticing about the D40 is the way that photos can be enlarged and still retain reasonably good quality.
