Oh yes, in principle I agree they should be handed back, especially since its not really known if they were obtained legally. However I think it raises some difficult questions: if every country began asking for its most famous works of art back, almost every major museum in the world would be emptied. What do you think?

I was surprised to see you have tagged this photo as Greece, Alan, although the Marbles themselves are at the British Museum. As a Greek myself, I would prefer them to be in the new Museum in Athens. Some replicas could be made for this very room to remind the visitors the generosity! of the English. :-)
