The limestone rocks of the White Peak were laid down about 325 million years ago, in the Carboniferous Period, when a few degrees south of the Equator and as a shallow tropical lagoon.

Hi Diggory, the water is not deep here as it is enlarged area to provide water for one of the many old mills that used to work on this river.

Hi Peter!The english mills is wonderful!I had read George Eliot's novel "The Mill on the Floss"!Amazing writer!But I like best Thomas Hardy and Charles Dickens!:)
