Hallo Tomas, de sfeer was er inderdaad prima ondanks het koude, mistige weer.

How cool is this? I've never seen anything like it before.

Very neat, and it looks SO very cold!

Great moment.

Greetings from the USA,

I can see the fog, but it only adds to the moment in your shot.

What a neat event.

I'm glad that you caught it for Panoramio!

Not that it's nothing to consider Green Irish Eagle this is something of a winter, like we used to have in the past.

These kind of winters bring back the good old Dutch traditions. Ice skating, Koek en Zopie (Cakes and Zopie is sold during a stop on the ice at small tents.

Zopie comes from soopje, what sip or a drink means. Before the nineteenth century, there was a lot of drinking, gambling on the ice and even whores. The main reason for this was that the law who forbidden such activities, was applied on land and water. As the ice was nor land or water, the law did not apply on the ice.

The original recipe of Zopie is a mixture of lager and rum. To this mixture were added eggs, cinnamon and cloves. The mixture than was heated en sold.

Today, in a cake and zopie-tent hot chocolate (with whipped cream and /or rum) is being sold, as is a typical Dutch soup wich is called Snert or Erwtensoep. Traditionally eaten in winter, erwtensoep has a very thick consistency, often includes pork and sausage, and is almost a stew rather than a soup. Some sources say "You should be able to stand a spoon upright in a good pea soup."

It is customarily served with rye bread (roggebrood) and cheese or butter. The meat may be put on the rye bread and eaten with mustard.

Further more filled cakes and sweets are being sold.)

Best regards, Erik

Klasse, jammer dat het alweer voorbij is Erik

Erik van den Ham on January 28, 2009

Hello dear Sam seem to have missed your comment. I don't share your opinion on man in Lycra. I had so much more fun watching the lovely ladies in Lycra they are so much better shaped than man.

Ja Fred aan alles komt een einde, gelukkig hebben we alle mooie foto herinneringen. Nu maar hopen dat het niet weer 13 jaar duurt voordat we kunnen genieten van mooi natuurijs.

Greetings, Groeten, Erik
